Coaching for teams
Team coaching helps teams work together, and across their wider environment, to create lasting change, by developing safe and trusting relationships, better ways of working together and new approaches, so that they maximise their collective potential, purpose and performance. Team coaching can be used to coach any team - senior leadership, managers and team leaders, and any other teams, be they permanent, remote, temporary, or dispersed.
Teams can be brought together around challenges of relevance and significance to that particular team, including but not exclusively:
Purpose
The team designs a statement of why the team exists. This captures how the team can work together to uniquely contribute towards the goals of the company, its stakeholders and customers
Identity
The team develops a unique team identity which binds team members together and reinforces the team’s positive mindset, energy and motivation
Values
The team explores and agrees on the culture it desires and the values, standards and behaviours that will underpin the team’s efforts
Awareness
The team members increase their awareness and consciousness of each other’s strengths and personal preferences, and how to leverage them for the benefit of the team as a whole
Relatedness
The team invests time in open and honest conversations to work more closely together and build strong relationships within the wider organisation
Ways of Working
The team works on devising the best systems and processes, and improving the structure of meetings and how it engages with others, in order to deliver concrete outcomes
Transformation
The team rigorously reviews what has come out of this process, how this impacts its future plans, and applies innovative ways to doing things differently
Team Coaching can also be useful for preparing the team for individual coaching sessions by:
-
Ensuring all participants are aligned to the overall purpose, culture and objectives of the team
-
Understanding the coaching process and the role of confidentiality in the coaching relationship
-
Answering any questions the team may have before 121 sessions begin
We also recommend that a current perceptions survey is carried out prior to coaching to inform the coaching programme design, based around topics such as Culture & Identity, Values, Purpose, Transformation, Roles and Working Environment.
